Quilting Tips and Sayings
- Always buy more fabric than you need - remember 'She who dies with the most fabric wins!'
- Never run with sharp pointy objects like scissors, pins or rotary cutters.
- If you cut yourself, make sure you don't bleed on the fabric!
- The newer the fabric the more irresistible it is to the cat!
- Your bobbin will always run out with only 3 inches left to sew.
- Cut your binding 2 1/2 inches wide - 3 inches for flannels.
- Make sure your quilt backing and wadding is 4 inches larger all around than your quilt top, prior to quilting.
- When ironing a bias strip turn off the steam on the iron so you don't burn your fingers.
- Those who sleep under a patchwork quilt are sleeping under a blanket of love.
- Try to schedule 15mins sewing time a day - remember 'If Mama ain't happy - nobody's happy'.
- Multi-task (only women can do this). You can cook dinner and listen to a child read; you can cut out while supervising homework; you can hand sew while waiting at the doctors, dentist, training etc.
- Never use your sewing scissors for cutting paper; it blunts them.
- Always 'square up' your quilt prior to adding borders.
- Join binding strips on the diagonal for reduced bulk.
